To try to compare Kate and Meghan’s styles is a moot point – that’s why I’m featuring their best looks of 2019 not only in two separate posts, but on two separate days. Kate is more traditional; Meghan is more modern. And, while Kate blew me away fashion-wise in 2019, I preferred Meghan’s 2018 style to her 2019 style. Meghan still nailed it a lot, don’t get me wrong. But I was pretty disappointed in her South Africa tour fashion and how casual she was throughout most of 2019. #shirtdress #wrapdress #rinse #repeat #rinse #repeat
2019 was a huge year for Meghan personally – the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. She gave birth to her first child while also dealing with a firestorm of criticism from every angle. She started off 2019 with a tour of Morocco in February, went off the grid in mid-March, gave birth in May, was on maternity leave until September, went to South Africa in late September and early October, dealt with the firestorm, and then has been back off the grid since mid-November. So, that we have so many good looks when, in reality, Meghan was off the radar for over half of 2019 speaks to her fashion sense – when she hits, she hits.
One thing I really do love – while Kate has her staples (Alexander McQueen, Emilia Wickstead), Meghan spreads the fashion love around. This year she was in everyone from Dior to Armani to Oscar de la Renta to Givenchy to Valentino to Erdem. She doesn't stick to one aesthetic. I appreciate that.
Without further ado, let’s look at Meghan’s top looks of 2019. All photos are courtesy of Getty unless otherwise noted.
